Porträt von Barbara Bertoli

Born in Geneva, Swiss, of Italian origin, Barbara started her professional career at the age of 16 in the medical field. She worked in Paris in the event management and luxury catering industries. Her strong point is communication, as a columnist in the morning show of a local radio station for several years, she worked by sharing her column "Barbara's good plans" with the listeners every day. Today, as a content creator, she has the ability to highlight different brands and establishments through her experiences in Switzerland and abroad, which she communicates on her website and social networks.

Hello Barbara. Thank you very much for being here with us today and for agreeing to answer some of our questions.

The pleasure is shared. Thank you for welcoming me so warmly.

You have gained a lot of experience in the communication field. Tell us a little about your different specialities!

Communication has always been part of my DNA. I produce interviews and podcasts for my clients, highlighting their brand or establishment. I also give them visibility by publishing articles on my website. I also work in the field of public relations and press relations for events in Geneva. I frequently organise meetings to put my network in contact with my clients. I also have requests as a master of ceremonies for private and corporate events.

What do you like most about your work?

I particularly enjoy sharing my experiences and introducing my audience to new places and activities that exist and deserve to be highlighted. I like this job because it is varied, in each place there is a story to tell, whether it is about a restaurant, a hotel, a concept or a stage of human life.

Do you have a goal you would like to achieve soon?

I always have a thousand projects in mind, some of which I carry out according to the opportunities that come to me or those that I seek. Every person I meet can potentially be a client. I particularly like to talk about new things that come on the market or unusual places. My readers are always keen to hear about original things I can offer them, as well as a simple, no-frills place. My communication is based on the authenticity of my experiences that I convey through my articles.

Do you have a project that is close to your heart?

I would like to develop my business abroad. Recently I was in the Puglia region of Italy and I am looking forward to sharing these unique places. I have no borders. As long as the destination or the project fits into my editorial line, I am open to it. On a more personal note, I am a partner of the association No Difference, which helps people with disabilities to realise their dreams and challenges in various sports and artistic fields. This opens up another reality to me, which stimulates me even more to go forward and realise my dreams.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to follow the same career as you?

You have to be bold, daring and not be afraid of being turned down. People often tell me that they can't do what I do, that they can't meet people. So I tell them every time: at worst they say "no", at best they say "yes". You'd be surprised how many "yeses" you can get. I would also say that you have to follow your instincts. That's what I've always done. You have to be careful to listen to that little voice that speaks to you, because it is very good advice.

How do you deal with doubt and adversity?

Believe in yourself. Listen to the advice and objective criticism you are given. You have to be in the field to learn the job best. You don't have to be highly educated to succeed in life. At the time, when I was working for the State of Geneva, many people told me that I was crazy to leave this job in view of the job guarantee that was more or less guaranteed. You have to separate your fears from those of others. I trusted myself and six months later I signed my contract at the radio station, which literally changed my daily energy. I was finally fulfilled professionally at the age of 40! It's never too late to change jobs!

You travel a lot for your work. Is there anywhere you would like to go?

It is impossible for me to name a particular place. I rarely return to the same place twice in order to discover as many beautiful places as possible that our planet has to offer. Unfortunately I won't have time to go around, so I prefer to change my destination as often as possible. Switzerland has some wonderful gems that I keep discovering. When it comes to foreign countries, I have Japan, Lapland, Iceland, New Zealand and Argentina on my to-do list.
